Why You Should Have a Pregnancy or Postnatal MOT

Pregnancy and birth place significant demands on your pelvic floor, core, joints, and posture. Even if you feel well, your body may be compensating in ways that aren’t obvious yet. A specialist Pregnancy or Postnatal MOT helps identify early changes, weakness, or tension so you can address them early and prevent issues from developing later on.

If you are already noticing symptoms — such as pelvic discomfort, leaking, back or hip pain, heaviness, or changes after birth — an MOT is the ideal starting point. It gives you clarity about what’s happening, reassurance about what’s normal, and a personalised plan to support a safer, more comfortable pregnancy or postnatal recovery.

Pregnancy MOT

A Pregnancy MOT is a comprehensive physiotherapy check-up to support your body as it adapts, whether you’re experiencing symptoms or simply want reassurance as your pregnancy progresses. We begin with a full history — including previous pregnancies, any complications, and current concerns such as back or pelvic pain, pelvic floor symptoms, or feelings of pressure — followed by an assessment of your posture, back, hips, pelvis, and movement. If needed, an internal pelvic floor assessment can be included.

Your session may include hands-on treatment, tailored exercises to support your pelvic floor and core, and practical guidance on positions, daily activity, and preparing your body for labour. We also discuss helpful equipment such as maternity support belts and provide personalised advice on sleep, stress, and lifestyle factors that influence comfort in pregnancy. You’ll leave with clarity, reassurance, and a treatment plan — including recommended follow-up or ongoing support where appropriate.

Postnatal MOT

A Postnatal MOT is a complete physiotherapy check-up designed to support your recovery after birth — whether you have symptoms or simply want reassurance that everything is healing well. From six weeks onwards (and up to around a year postnatal), we begin with a full history of your pregnancy, birth, symptoms, and general health before assessing your posture, back, hips, pelvis, abdomen, and movement patterns. Where appropriate, this includes checking for diastasis recti, pelvic floor function, and C-section scar mobility.

Your session may include hands-on treatment, tailored exercises to support your pelvic floor and core, and guidance on returning to daily activities and movement safely. We also discuss lifestyle factors, breastfeeding-related postural changes, and any ongoing discomfort from pregnancy or birth. You’ll leave with clarity about your recovery and a personalised treatment plan — with recommended follow-up or onward support where appropriate, which may include our Postnatal Recovery Programme.
