Menopause and Hormonal Health

Hormonal conditions that can affect the body, movement, and wellbeing.

Understanding hormonal changes

Hormonal changes can affect the body at different stages of life, often in ways that aren’t always clearly explained or joined up. Symptoms may develop gradually, fluctuate over time, or be dismissed as something you simply have to tolerate.

This page highlights the main hormonal conditions I work with, helping you recognise what you may be experiencing and understand when support may be helpful.

Condition Overview

Hormonal conditions can influence pain, pelvic health, movement, energy levels, and overall quality of life. Below are the key hormonal conditions I support.

Perimenopause and Menopause

Hormonal changes during perimenopause can begin years before periods stop completely and may continue after menopause. Symptoms can include changes in energy, mood, sleep, joint pain, pelvic health symptoms, bladder changes, and discomfort during daily activities. Some symptoms may fluctuate, while others can persist or become more noticeable after menopause.

Endometriosis

A long-term, hormonally influenced condition that can cause pelvic pain, painful periods, pain during intercourse, and bladder or bowel symptoms. Symptoms may initially be cyclical and linked to the menstrual cycle, but for some people can become more persistent over time. Endometriosis may also be associated with back pain, fatigue, headaches, and pain that affects daily activities and movement.

Painful Periods (Dysmenorrhoea)

Period pain that interferes with daily life, work, or activities. This may occur without an identifiable underlying condition (primary dysmenorrhoea) or alongside conditions such as endometriosis or adenomyosis. Pain may be accompanied by symptoms such as back pain, headaches, nausea, fatigue, or pelvic discomfort, and is not something that has to be accepted as normal.

Symptoms don’t always fit neatly into one category

Hormonal symptoms can overlap and change over time, particularly during perimenopause. You may recognise elements of more than one condition, or find that symptoms don’t follow a clear or predictable pattern.

In many cases, there is a lot that can be addressed through discussion, education, and supportive strategies. Where symptoms suggest a specific underlying condition or where further investigation may be appropriate, this can be discussed and, if needed, you may be advised to follow up with your GP for additional assessment or tests.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

If your symptoms are related to perimenopause or menopause, a Menopause MOT is often a helpful starting point.

For other hormonally related concerns, a women’s health physiotherapy appointment may be more appropriate.

If you’re unsure which option is right for you, you’re very welcome to get in touch to discuss your symptoms before booking.
